How much does an EICR certificate cost?
£150 to £280 excluding VAT in Bristol for a typical one-to-three-bed home, scaling with circuit count for larger houses and HMOs. Beware £99 EICRs: either the inspection is being rushed or the price is recovered through inflated remedial quotes afterwards. Remedial work should always be quoted separately from the inspection.

The £99 EICR deserves its reputation. An inspection's value is entirely in its thoroughness, and thoroughness is hours. The cut-price version either samples less, tests less and misses more, or functions as a loss-leader for the remedial work it then discovers with suspicious abundance. Neither failure mode is visible on the certificate itself.
The structural protection to insist on: remedial quotes itemised and separate from the inspection fee, so you are free to take the list to any electrician. That separation removes the incentive to over-code, and any inspector who resists it is telling you something.
For landlords, the maths is gentle: £150 to £280 every five years is £3 to £5 a month for legal compliance and the tenant-safety evidence a council or court would ask for.
