Emergency electrical faults in Bristol
Power loss, burning smells, tripping that will not reset: urgent fault-finding booked through the form, honestly triaged.

An urgent electrical fault visit in Bristol costs £120–£180 excluding VAT for the callout and first hour, with most faults diagnosed inside it. Total loss of power, a burning smell from a socket or the board, a consumer unit that will not reset: these are the jobs we prioritise and slot first. One honest instruction before any of it: if something is burning, sparking or smoking, switch off at the main switch and call 999 if there is any fire risk; a website form is not an emergency service for a live fire.
This is for you if
- The whole house has lost power and the neighbours have not
- The consumer unit trips the moment you reset it
- A socket, switch or the fuse board smells hot or shows scorch marks
- Lights flickering across multiple rooms, not just one bulb
- Water has got into the electrics: a leak over a light fitting, a flooded socket
- A DIY job or a botched repair has left something you do not trust
What's included
- Priority booking: urgent faults go first in the diary, same or next working day
- Systematic fault-finding: circuit by circuit until the cause is found, not guessed
- A made-safe state before we leave, even when parts must be ordered
- A fixed written price for any repair beyond the first hour, before we continue
- Straight advice when the fault is your supplier's side of the meter (that call is free)

Emergencies: what people ask
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Anything that is dangerous now or has made the home unliveable: total power loss, a board that will not reset, burning smells or scorch marks, buzzing from the consumer unit, water into electrics. Two triage rules first: if anything is actually burning or smoking, main switch off and 999. And if the whole street is dark, it is a network fault; call 105 (free, any supplier) rather than paying anyone a callout. Everything else urgent: send the form with 'as soon as possible' selected and we prioritise it.
Read the full answerWhy does my electricity keep tripping?
Because a protective device is detecting a real problem: current leaking to earth or a circuit overloaded. The commonest causes we find, in order: a failing appliance (unplug everything on the circuit and reintroduce one at a time; the culprit announces itself), moisture in outdoor sockets or garden equipment, a damaged cable from DIY or rodents, and occasionally a nuisance-tripping RCD that shares too many circuits. If your own unplugging experiment finds the appliance, you have fixed it for free. If not, it is a fault-finding visit.

Honest triage: burning, smoking or sparking is not a wait, it is main switch off and, if any fire risk, 999. A dead circuit that trips instantly on reset can wait safely as long as you leave it off; do not keep resetting it, each reset drives fault current through whatever is damaged. Whole-house power loss with neighbours affected is your network operator (105). Flickering, warm plates and intermittent faults are urgent-but-bookable. When in doubt, leave the circuit off and describe the symptoms in the form; we answer fast in working hours.

With us: £120–£180 excluding VAT for the callout and first hour, and most faults are diagnosed within it; further work is priced in writing before we continue. For calibration, out-of-hours emergency rates around Bristol commonly run £150–£250 for the first hour. Be careful of two patterns: 'free callout' pricing that recovers itself in the repair, and per-15-minute billing that turns diagnosis into a meter. A fixed first hour with a written price after diagnosis is the structure that keeps everyone honest.
