How long does a rewire take?
Five to ten working days for a full three-bed rewire: roughly a week of first fix (cables in), then second fix (faces on) and a final day dominated by testing and certification. Occupied houses run a day or two longer than empty ones; larger houses scale with circuit count.
The rhythm of a rewire: first fix is the noisy, dusty majority, lifting boards, chasing walls, running new cable to every point; second fix is the satisfying part, sockets, switches and the new board going live section by section; and the final day is testing every circuit and producing the certification, which is not padding, it is the product.
A typical Bristol two-up-two-down runs at the week end of the range; a four-bed Victorian villa with fourteen circuits at the ten-day end or beyond. Extensions of scope (while-we-are-here lighting schemes, outdoor power, EV provision) add honest days and are cheapest done inside the project.
Speed claims deserve scrutiny in both directions. A three-day 'full rewire' of a family house has skipped something, usually making-good or testing depth. Equally, a quote stretching a terraced house to four weeks is padding or juggling you with other jobs. The written scope should state the days and the sequence.
After we leave: filled chases need paint, which is the decorator's moment, and the certification pack arrives with the Building Regulations notification confirmation following by post. Rewire first, decorate second remains the golden sequence.
